Altered Flame
Altered Flame is the first iteration in a body of work which explores Lithium. This element has nuanced identity as a pharmaceutical treatment for Bipolar disorder, whilst also being as hailed as the heroic substance to bridge the gap between our energy appetite and a sustainable future. By capturing lithium’s signature red flame, and utilising the imagery of phenomena eternal flames, this looping video work illustrates the cause and effect of the element whilst creating the illusion of a steady, undisturbed supply.
This work was first shown in URGENCIES (2025), CCA Derry~Londonderry’s biennial exhibition of emerging artists connected to the North of Ireland.
